Minecraft Dungeons is full of chests, secrets, and emerald containers, all of which will help players raise their power levels and fill their inventory. However, those looking to trade gear in Minecraft Dungeons, or even just drop it instead of salvaging it, are out of luck. Right now, loot is locked to individual players, so it isn’t possible to drop gear in Dungeons or trade it with friends.

That may not be such a bad thing, though. Players that reach Minecraft Dungeon’s max level would be able to abuse the system too easily, lifting their friend’s power levels to a ridiculously high number for the first few playthroughs. Instead, those that want to play co-op in Minecraft Dungeons will want to stick together throughout the game, leveling at the same time and earning gear at a similar rate.
It’s possible that this changes post-launch, as Minecraft Dungeons DLC is already confirmed, and would come with quality of life improvements, but it doesn’t seem too likely. Being unable to trade or drop items in Minecraft Dungeons seems very intentional, as it is a great way to keep the game balanced. There aren’t classes, either, meaning there are few reasons for players to try and boost an alt anyway, so the system would almost certainly be exploited to raise friends levels.
For now, Minecraft Dungeons players will just have to live with salvaging gear. Luckily, that becomes a good way to earn emeralds fast in Minecraft Dungeons, which allows players to purchase items from the game’s various traders. Dropping items in Minecraft Dungeons would be convenient, but it’s just too open to exploitation.
Minecraft Dungeons reviews have been fairly positive so far, with many citing it as a great gateway into other ARPG games like Diablo. Hopefully, more will come from it in the future.
Minecraft Dungeons is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
